Best Vacation Ideas

Vacations provide wonderful opportunities to get out of your regular routine for a few days or a few weeks. A change of scenery can be refreshing, relaxing, exciting or adventurous. You may even be able to plan a memorable vacation that includes all of these aspects. Sometimes, you can have an enjoyable vacation by climbing into the car with your GPS and making destination decisions as you go. However, it is normally better to make plans before you take off. Planning a vacation or weekend getaway is part of the excitement and fun, and making lists will help preparations go smoothly. One list should contain things to do before you go on vacation such as stopping the mail and newspaper delivery. Another list can include clothes to pack, and a third should consist of books, games, cameras and the like. In addition, do not forget to bring snacks and water.

Hi, my name is James. I got inspired to build this website after my family and I took a week long Christmas Disney vacation in 2010. I’m going to write about my families Disney World vacation and many more vacation ideas.

This is a pic of my wife and child in front of mickey mouse made out of grass.

Silver Dollar City

Most children love to vacation at theme parks and enjoy their rides and excitement. That makes choosing a vacation for your family at a theme park or an indoor water park a great option. When you choose a park like Silver Dollar City, you will find entertainment that the adults will enjoy as well. Everyone can tour the cave located in the park and marvel at the underground wonders. Watch the craftspeople as they demonstrate candle making, soap making, blacksmithing and various other occupations from another century. Various shows and exhibitions add to the fun for all. Rides and activities for toddlers, older children and adults abound, and everyone is sure to have a great time. There are plenty of places at the park to buy meals and snacks, but if you want to limit spending to the price of admission, bring a sack lunch packed with throwaway containers. After lunch, simply toss everything in the trash and continue the day unencumbered by a lunch bag. If each person has a water bottle, he or she can refill it at the water fountains instead of buying drinks. This makes for a great family vacation on a budget. It’s not  a Disney World vacation or an all inclusive family resort, but Silver Dollar City will definitely be a fun family vacation.

Santorini Island

Santorini island

The white beaches along the gulf coast make you think you are walking on sugar instead of sand. However, if you want to walk on black sand, go to Santorini Island in Greece. The island was formed when a volcano erupted, and the volcanic matter makes black sand. Because it is black, the sand absorbs heat from the sun, so bring flip flops or sandals to protect your feet.

  • Budget Vacation Ideas

Budget vacation ideas

Vacations do not have to be costly. There are many ways to have a great time without spending too much money. Nature’s beauty provides awesome scenery at no charge, but you may have to venture from the main highways to find the most breathtaking views. Each part of the country or world has its own unique beauty, and when you take lots of photos, you can enjoy the sights many times.

Consider camping at a nearby lake when you want to vacation on a budget. You can have all the fun of a camping trip without the expense of traveling a long distance. You do not have to be far from home to enjoy a vacation.

camping near lake

When you travel, you may stay in hotels or at campgrounds to save on lodging costs. If you prefer motels, you can find less expensive ones by driving along the old highway into a town rather than staying near the interstate highways. If you are concerned about the cleanliness of the rooms in the older motels, ask to see your room before paying for it. You may also find that gas is up to ten cents a gallon cheaper in those areas.

When your vacation destination requires a lengthy drive, there are ways to economize as you travel. Bring a cooler with sandwich meat, carrots, apples, yogurt cups, juice, milk and other foods packed in it. Freeze water in soda bottles or plastic juice bottles with lids to use instead of crushed ice for keeping food cool. If you stay in motels with refrigerators, refreeze the bottles while you sleep. Pack a box with dry cereal, bread, crackers, cookies, peanut butter and other food along with plastic utensils and bowls. Stop at picnic spots to eat and avoid expensive restaurants. When you decide to eat at a café, remember that fast food is not necessarily cheap. You may spend less if you eat at a reasonably priced regular restaurant. Many of those establishments serve large portions, so consider dividing one meal between two people.

You can make a game out of budgeting when everyone participates in the effort by contributing new ideas.

  • Spring Break Vacation Ideas

The Beach

Hanging out at a beach and enjoying the sun, surfing, swimming and partying is a popular and traditional spring break idea. Just gather your swim gear and a few friends and head for your favorite beach to work on your tan and have fun. However, you may want to consider some other unique and rewarding options.

For a truly memorable spring break, volunteer to work with Habitat for Humanity to help build a house for a family that cannot afford to buy one. Help out at the Humane Society and work with the animals. You may discover that you want to study to be a veterinarian. Volunteer to read to patients at a nursing home or hospital or write letters for them, and you may decide to become a nurse or doctor. Ask your Chamber of Commerce or church about opportunities to make a difference in your community by volunteering your services in a meaningful way. When you see the appreciation of those you help, it will make you want to spend time assisting less fortunate people on some of your future spring breaks as well.

However, if you do not like cold weather, winter is the perfect time to visit southern states or even travel to another country where the weather is warm.

St. Thomas

You will find daytime temperatures averaging 78 degrees in the wintertime and 82 degrees in the summertime in the tropical climate of the Virgin Islands. Some of the best hotels, resorts and beaches in the Caribbean are at St. Thomas. If you love the sea, photography, history or shopping, you will enjoy a vacation at St. Thomas.

Centuries ago, buccaneers and pirates made St. Thomas a preferred shopping destination, and Charlotte Amalie remains a favorite port of call with the cruise lines. The duty-free shopping attracts bargain hunters who find a huge variety of merchandise in the Havensight Mall and charming shops there.

Blackbeard’s Tower remains on the island and is a testimony of the island’s history as a pirate refuge. The museum housed in impressive Fort Christian has a collection of Indian artifacts from the 17th century.

Visit Drake’s Seat to get a panoramic view of one hundred islands, and the sights you can see from the summit of St. Peter Mountain are spectacular, so bring your camera. Treat yourself to one of the great banana daiquiris there as you enjoy the scenery.

  • Singles Vacation Ideas

When you are single, you can go anywhere you want and do anything you like without consulting someone else first, so you can spend time enjoying your favorite activities or choose something new and different. Novel and exciting experiences may lead the way to adventure and marvelous memories.

This may be a good time to try your hand at something you have always wanted to experience but never had the opportunity to do so. You may want to try mountain climbing, skydiving, snorkeling, deep sea diving or deep sea fishing. If you like the water, take a cruise to a fascinating destination.

Alaskan Cruise

Most people think a cruise would take them to the Bahamas or someplace similar. However, you may want to do something different and choose a unique destination. If you want to cruise Alaska it will provide marvelous scenery with views of mountains, glaciers and icebergs along the way. As the ship glides along, you can watch whales, otters, sea lions, bald eagles, brown bears and mountain goats. Discover the area’s rich history and native culture when you visit the various ports of call.

If you would rather not be single, visit places that interest you, and you may meet someone with similar interests and develop a new friendship. When you have a hobby, you may be able to take a vacation and enjoy your hobby at the same time.

Bike Across Kansas

Bicycling enthusiasts enjoy the yearly Bike Across Kansas experience. They make new friends and renew old acquaintances as they rest in the evenings and pair up with others as they ride. The pedalers travel 475 miles across Kansas from the Colorado border to the Missouri border and enjoy eight days of great exercise and camaraderie. Many communities along the way provide hospitality for the cyclists. Approximately 800 support people and riders make the trip every year and always travel on paved county roads and secondary state highways. BAK sponsors arrange for sleeping accommodations with the overnight host cities in advance of the trip. The facilities include areas to camp, restrooms and showers. However, some participants choose to stay in motels along the route.

Santorini Island

When you enjoy creating or viewing artwork, you may like the island of Santorini in Greece where many artists live. One of the island’s cliff towns like Oia, Imerovigli or Fira will provide amazing scenery, beautiful sunsets, museums and delightful shops featuring native handicrafts and artwork. Enjoy an evening meal in a small café on the steep side of the mountain and listen to live music as you dine. Party lovers find plenty of entertainment with drinks and music at the many dancing clubs, discos and bars in Perissa, Kamari and Fira.

  • Ski Vacation Ideas

Brian Head

Ski resorts have plenty of opportunities for wintertime skiing, but if some people in your party do not want to ski, they will find many other activities to occupy their time at the larger resorts. Brian Head, Utah, usually receives more than 400 inches of snow every year, and about 80 percent of the skiing area consists of beginner and intermediate terrain, so it is a great place to learn the sport. One of the mountains is dedicated entirely to children and beginners. However, the remaining 20 percent of Brian Head will satisfy even the most accomplished skiing enthusiasts.

In the springtime, you can ski at Brian Head without wearing heavy parkas. Although the weather is milder then, the snow is still excellent for skiing. The Grand Lodge at Brian Head features decks with fire pits where guests gather to relax after a day of fun in the snow. It boasts first class dining, a high-energy bar, an indoor swimming pool, a spa and a 4 star resort level of comfort and service.

At or near Brian Head, you will find horseback riding, mountain bike rentals and ATV trails. Do not leave the area without viewing the breathtaking scenery at nearby Zion National Park, Zion Kolob Canyons, Bryce Canyon National Park, Panguitch Lake and Dixie National Forest.

  • Vacations with Kids

Very young children behave much better when you make time for them to have an afternoon nap every day. Kids that are too old to nap should occasionally run and play in a park or rest area to work off some of their energy. Then they will be ready to sit still in the car when it is time to go again. The rest of the family can use that time to discuss plans for the next day, play games together or just spend some quiet time relaxing. Keep simple snacks like animal crackers, Kix or Cheerios handy to give the kids when they are hungry, but limit candy and other sweets. Bring books, travel games and toys to entertain the children as you travel. When games have magnetized pieces, they will not get lost in the car. Play simple guessing games with the kids, and make up contests like who can spot the most cows, tractors, lakes or other roadside sights. Older children can be encouraged to keep a journal of the vacation to record events and highlights of the trip. If they add drawings to their pages, the journals will be more entertaining.

Traveling with kids can present a great educational opportunity. Teach them about our history by visiting museums. Introduce them to the workings of our government by seeing various sites in Washington, DC, or take them to your own state capital building. Hike along nature trails and point out various interesting natural wonders. Explain how waterfalls and glaciers are formed. Visit aquariums and zoos so they can watch a large variety of live fish and animals. You may even locate a working farm where you can stay and take part in some of the farming activities.

Weatherbury Farm

Weatherbury Farm, located southwest of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, offers farm vacations and allows visitors to have a hands-on experience of farm life. The kids may participate in pursuits like bottle-feeding baby animals, feeding caged bunnies, hand-feeding goats and using an old hand pump to supply the animals with water. Children will learn that milk does not originate from a plastic bottle in the supermarket. They will discover that bread begins as wheat growing in a field, and sheep make a large contribution to their wool sweaters. On a summer day, you can cool off in the farm’s swimming pool, and there are many nearby attractions to visit if you tire of farm activities.

Vacations should be fun, so forget about your job and enjoy the time away from it. Take lots of photos so you can continue the pleasure by sharing pictures with others and reminiscing after you return home and for years to come.
